Despite being a big fan of the movies, tv shows, and fiction spin-offs, this is the first time I've ever read any original Sherlock Holmes fiction.

A Study in Scarlet marks the beginning of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. They meet, get a flatshare, and Watson finds himself accompanying Holmes while he investigates a very strange murder.

I was not a huge fan of the story-in-the-middle-of a story format but I thought the writing was nice and it was interesting to actually go back to the roots of this well-known fictional character.

The biggest twist in this case was the sudden holiday to the middle of bum fuck nowhere, USA.

A good insight into Holmes, the book focuses more on the story than on Holmes as a character.
