BEHIND CLOSED DOORS is a lovely collection of short stories that focus on the experience of characters living with mental health conditions, the challenges they encounter while trying to go about day to day life, and emotional successes when they’re able to work around phobias and anxieties. I loved the sensitivity and thoughtfulness with which each story was written, the way it showed how friends and family are so crucial as supportive partners in helping someone with a mental health condition to feel supported, and how with all invisible illness, someone might appear “normal” on the outside, and you don’t really know how hard things are for them behind closed doors, how much of a struggle it might have been for them to make it out the door of their apartment that day, or to the airport terminal, or through a work day. It gave me so much to think about and I love books that do that! 5/5 stars.

Ms. Holland's Behind Closed Doors provides a window to the hidden suffering that goes on around us. I found it a compelling read because I had no idea of a couple of the types of anxiety portrayed in the short stories. This anthology provides an important reminder that we cannot assume the motivations of others, sometimes not even people we think we know. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in gaining insight into mental health disorders, especially anxiety and depression.
