I have to give this book a solid 3 stars due to the fact that "Heart of Darkness" was like pulling teeth to read. If I wasn't reading this as part of an ENG class, I'd be so lost. I enjoyed "Secret Sharer" a lot more, due to its ease of understanding.

I was assigned to read this book in high school and again in college. While I remember flipping through the pages, I'm quite sure that I never read the entire (although short) thing. It was an interesting expose on the psychological aspects of a man "alone" in a dark world.

For the purposes of my Reading Challenge, I have logged both Heart of Darkness and The Secret Sharer separately, but ultimately read them in this 1981 Bantam classics version.

Both reviews, for separate versions can be found here and here.

Overall: Both stories: 3.5/5

Rating this is so hard because I love the stories and the prose but the racism and misogyny is hard to get past :/

Love it or hate it. There is no in between.

This was another AP English read. It was okay, but the language and rhythm of the sentences have been proven to make you sleepy, so don't listen to it in the car or anything. It is pretty short, but takes a while to get through and is mainly about the corruption of man.
