First in the Bad Kitty children's picture book series.

My Take
My favorite part of this book was the info pages at the front of the book. Very clever and cute. For the rest, yes, Bruel was also quite clever in his use of the alphabet to explain how bad the kitty is, what foods the kitty liked and disliked, and how the bad kitty apologized to everyone. I could wish he had been more clever in some of his letter choices.

Cute ending, though.

The Story
Poor kitty…her owners have run out of her usual food and all they have is "healthy and delicious" which only leads this poor kitty into being a very bad kitty.

Except, oops, then her owners came home with food that kitty thinks is good (they must have a really weird grocery store) and that bad, bad kitty suddenly thinks of all sorts of ways to be a good kitty.

The Cover and Title
The cover is definitely of a Bad Kitty who has painted the title in purple paint on the white wall along with purple paw prints on the wall…tsk…bad kitty…

I know a lot of kids love this character. I can't tell why from the first book so I'll try one or two more.

Cute, but going three times through the alphabet seemed kind of excessive.

I stumbled upon this one quite by chance... and purchased it on the spot. A cat gone wild, this alphabet fun book describes a kitty with a bit of a temper when she finds out that there's no cat food to be had in the house, but only fruits and vegetables (asparagus through zucchini). The great descriptions of kitty's bad behavior ("Quarreled with our neighbors," "Sold my toys," etc.) and how kitty makes up for it all once cat-friendly foods are stocked are really quite hilarious. You don't have to be a cat owner to appreciate the humor, but it might help.

A great take on ABC books with some fairly advanced vocabulary.

Bad Kitty wasn't always bad, until her owners ran out of her food and left her with 26 options that she was NOT happy about. So she "Ate my homework, Bit grandma, Clawed the curtains..." But when her owner comes back from the store with 26 appealing options, Bad Kitty does everything she can to remedy her bad behavior (in alphabetical order). There are lots of "Bad Kitty" books now, and this one that started it all is definitely worth a read. Kiddos who already know their alphabet will enjoy the pattern, and Bad Kitty's antics.

A fun story about Kitty's search for Santa and how sometimes we think we know the way things will go, but we can be pleasantly surprised.

This alphabet book isn't really consistent in the placement of the letters. The pictures are awesome. Food lists are bizarre.
