This was a another page turner!!! Can’t wait for the next one !!!

2021: 4.5/5 I didn’t enjoy the beginning and certain parts of the middle of this one as much as I did the first one BUT IT PICKED UP SO MUCH at the end so I had to give it 4.5 stars because the ending made up for the slow beginning. THE BATTLE scene was so well done and I was capitulated all throughout. I loved that the elf son tried to save their lives and I hope he becomes a part of their team to take down the elf king. As usual, the artwork was STUNNING and I think this graphic novel would make it to my top 5 for stunning artwork AND story. Can’t wait to continue because I’ll be reading the third volume for the first time!

Once again, Amulet and Kibushi impress. He's a fantastic story creator and artist. This story had more depth then book 1 in terms of content and I felt a lot more connected with the characters. For a book for kids the concepts that are portrayed are very mature (not in an inapproiate way just serious thought provoking dilemmas).

I enjoyed seeing Navin come into his own and find his place in the story and the sub-plot with the elves and the twist associated with that was fantastic. Very avatar the last air bender.

I will definitely be reading the next book in the series, probably today if I'm being truly honest and I can't wait to expierence more of this world and these characters.

{My thoughts} – Emily and Navin are making a trip to Kanalis, in the hope and attempt to find a cure for their mother. Their mother was poisoned in the last book and now they are attempting to save her life. There is a lot that is going on in this book.

Both Emily and Navin end up getting separated in an attempt to keep Navin safe. However, once Navin gets to where he is headed, he learns that Emily isn’t safe and he decides to go on his own mission to save her. Many of those around him decide that it is in their best interest to go with him and help him succeed. They do save her, but it comes at a cost for the house in which they are residing.

Emily struggles through most of the book, she is fighting against the amulet. The amulet talks to her and tells her to let it take control and it can help her save herself and those she loves most. She doesn’t want to let that happen and the fight is draining her on so many different levels.

We learned in this book that their biggest enemy is the Elf King and we learned how he’d come about. We learned that one of her best allies is the son of a guard that the Elf King had killed. And we learned a whole lot of other history. We mostly learned that even though things aren’t going as one would like, that Emily and Navin are up to the fight and the challenge needed to protect those around them and those they care deeply about. I look forward to reading the next book in the series very soon.

The second volume of Kazu Kibuishi's Amulet series is even better than the first. Everything that got set up in the original book--robots! tentacle monsters! an epic quest in a cool, steampunky realm threatened by evil elves!--starts to pay off here as Emily, the young heroine, struggles with the power granted her by the titular amulet. Kibuishi's colorful, manga-inspired art is simple but expressive, and as the plot kicks into gear, he continues to surprise. This is a great example of an author taking familiar fantasy tropes and making them his own--and a joy to read besides.

The dialogue is much improved from the first installment and the conflicts get bigger/more interesting. Some of the illustrations in certain climatic moments felt oddly comical and styled strangely, but overall genuinely enjoyed reading this one with the kiddo.
