I’ve never really read anything like this plot with the changing how people look and the power it might bring. This starts off kind of slow but after like 150ish pages o was entertained and wanted to know where the plot was going. I liked the main character even though she annoyed me at times. There’s a slight romance in this which was fine, but I’m hoping there’s a bodyguard romance in the next book, but I’m sure I’m wrong.

Second, I pretty much liked the characters which is a must for me to enjoy any story. Camellia is ambitious and smart but a naive about people and court life in general. She has a pretty good cast of supporting friends and her two love interests are ones you're rooting for even if it's not super developed. The villain is really devious and you can't help but despise her, though I wish Clayton would have introduced her sooner to move the plot along faster. The big mystery wasn't that big of a mystery and all the action happens in the last 100 pages which drives me crazy about YA books!
There are some great points about beauty and privilege and societal expectations that would make a great book discussion. Overall, decently entertaining with good characters. I world be interested in reading the next one- especially since it's 100 pages shorter.
Moderate: Torture

+ Through the narrator and her sisters’ POV, a refreshing celebration of diverse forms and interpretations of beauty
+ Representation/inclusion that feels natural and casual, only occasionally heavy-handed
+ Visceral and gripping descriptions, dialogue that feels True, a protag who is naive, charming, and morally challenged time and again.
- Pacing can be a bit strange— slow and meandering at the beginning, too fast near the end. Some of the protagonists largest concerns feel underaddressed as a result, and some situations (ie: her being
