3/4 Stars: Maybe I would’ve like this book more if I didn’t listen as an audio book or if I knew more of the Fitzgeralds before starting. I felt the first half of the book was boring and took a long time to get going. It wasn’t until they started with more of their struggles did I gain more interest. It was definitely interesting to hear about how they lived and what little independence women could have about 100 years ago.

Zelda struggled with her yearning for an expansive life in the confines of a society that deemed any aspirations beyond dutiful wife and mother to be superfluous and damaging. I loved how informative this novel was while also being replete with emotion. There were also a lot of fun, dishy mentions of their canonical contemporaries they rubbed elbows with, including Hemingway, Dorothy Parker, Gertrude Stein, and others.

There were parts of this book which were imaginative and wonderful in the telling of this life. The last quarter seemed to be missing the connection that was started.
