Richard Wagamese has become one of my favorite writers but it wasn't without trepidation that I approached his poetry. I don't know what I was thinking. Of course I love it. Of course his reflections at 55 in several poems would hit me in the heart as I sit here at the bloody edge of 55 myself, feeling largely old and invisible but also more full of love, and sadness, than at any point in my life. That is life, I guess, especially as an Indigenous man who spent large part of my life disconnected from my heritage. I wish he hadn't left us so soon. I'd have liked to meet him.
