The worst book I’ve ever read in my life. As we say in german: „Wie kann man nur so eine Scheiße fabrizieren? Wie besoffen muss man sein um das gut zu finden?“ and I think that’s beautiful.

One of the few mandatory university readings that i genuinely enjoyed. i read it in german and Keuns writing style really invites you to see 1930s Germany, a very tumultuous time, through the eyes of a young (somewhat naive) Woman. really had me choked up in places because, man she is just like me in some ways. really recontextualized a lot of stuff i learned about the Weimar Republic in School and through other media.
