An interesting book culturally but a depressing book sociologically. His thesis is a little one sided and conveniently does not include societies and cults where women are dominant. It also suffers from being " an enquiry into misogyny" written by a man in the 1960's with all that implies. As a woman I found it anthropologically interesting but the writer was obsequious and made me cringe in places.
