While the descriptions of food made me want to Google "nearest Indonesian restaurant", the rest of the book left me scratching my head... It was kind of a mess.

This book counts towards the Reading Women 2019 Challenge task #7: A book featuring a woman in science. (the lead character in this book is an epidemiologist )

really struggled to focus on this one, as the plot and characters did not do much for me. it was interesting to learn about indonesian food, though!

Baca ini bikin ngiler, walau sejujurnya dari sisi konflik dan pengembangan karakter agak datar. Overall, such a good novel.

Very boring…. Too much, at least up to 17%, about epidemiology!  Yawn!

While I find the cultural aspect of this really interesting, and their were pieces of insight into politics, epidemic management, and food that were fascinating, I simply could not follow it. I had no connection with the characters because too much was happening, and most of the discussion was simply listing different types of dishes. I was disappointed. 2.5

it sort of felt like pamuntjak had written all this food stuff up for another project and then decided to squeeze it into this book about one dimensional characters. i'm glad i got to read her work but don't think the avian flu setup was the best means through which to do so. this will make you hungry, so don't read it if you're trying not to be preoccupied with food.

I thought this was a delightful book about food. I am not much into asian food but this book makes me want to try all the dishes mentioned. She goes into such careful detail.

I devoured this book just like how Aruna, Nadz, and Bono devour their food in it. I couldn’t stop reading, and i read every word slowly but also continuingly because I loved how the author describe the surroundings, the food, and even the emotions Aruna was feeling and the words she used were so captivating i couldn’t help wanting more.
