As my first Ahlborn book, this was a bit disappointing. It was really unremarkable to be honest. I was excited during the first 50 pages , but after that, it felt like every “scary” movie ever made. Not to mention how drawn out it was and how annoying I found Jack. It wasn’t horrible, but I will not be giving this a re-read.

Hmm, I don’t know about this one. I found the characters unlikable and honestly, kinda stupid. The Father annoyed me with his constant refusal to explain anything to his wife and the wife annoyed me because despite recognising that her youngest child was a maniac. Neither parent did anything to safeguard their eldest. At what point do you feel that uneasy around a child, have the knowledge that she’s the reason your pet is dead and still leave them unattended together? Even making them sleep together in the same room makes no sense. Maybe it’s because I’m a parent, but for me I couldn’t get past how dumb the parents came across.

this is my first book my ania ahlborn and it did not disappoint. this is probably one of the most depressing stories i’ve read so far and the author does an amazing job of ripping away any feeling of hope i had in the final stretch of the book. it’s also one of those books where you never know why. “because i can” is a reason that should be used more often in books.
