4 1/2 stars. This book was an unexpected delight to read. The protagonist is a new-to-me sort of Fey person, and she felt consistent to me, as well as being a likeable and sympathetic character. I like the feel the author captured of building up an ensemble cast that are supportive of each other. I like the overall tone of cautious optimism and solid determination. It was also a fast and easy read that drew me right in to the world. I will definitely read more in this series.

3.5 stars- I really like the merging together of genres to create this book. The world building for me was a little hard to grasp at first, but once I understood what all of the sub categories of beings were in this novel I could follow the story along a little better. Liliana, our FMC, is a 146 year old seer spider-kin. Right now she is only half developed to the full seer spider she will become in about 20 years, but she has been a long standing psychic in the Fayetteville area since she came over from Europe 100 years or so ago. Lily gets visited by some Others when she didn’t think there were any other species around her, and that’s when problems start to arise. The story follows her and a gang of Others while they try to solve some unsolved murders.

If you like any sort of fantasy, futuristic, story lines- this book is definitely for you! The second one in the series just came out and it picks up right where this one leaves off as well.

Precise Oaths
By Paige E. Ewing

I was surprised (in a good way) by this book. Not that I thought it would be bad, but the blurb, while interesting, was a bit underwhelming. I ended up really enjoying it! I wouldn’t put it quite as high as some other indie/self-pub books I’ve read recently, but it was just a pleasure to read.

The world is set in the future but with an alternate history where fae and fae-kind are a matter of fact. Our main character is a reclusive and socially awkward spider-kin seer. I thought the author did a good job of really exploring her character, background, motivation, and internal struggles. While the plot is very fast-paced, the introspection and “seer” parts slowed it down enough to balance it out.

I appreciated the exploration of friendships and the way the two main characters interacted with each other. Looking forward to reading the next one!

Thanks to @prbythebook for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

THIS BOOK. The story pulls you in from the beginning and the world building is carefully added in throughout, not in a confusing way. I feel like the FMC does not take a common path in such a great way. Liliana’s development kept me on my toes and .. you just have to read this!
I want to thank the author for the ebook and note that all opinions/thoughts above are my own!
