Really enjoyed this. Didn't know much about the history of the space programme but this gives a good grounding and places it properly in social and cultural context

Companion piece to the documentary of the same title which I highly recommend. This book details much of how we got men of the moon, and historical picture of what was happening during that time frame.

I wanted to read this during the anniversary year of the moonshot, but I probably choose poorly. I didn't realize until later that this was a companion book to a television show about the moon landing, and that's probably why I didn't love it. It really only covered the story on it's surface, so I wish I had chosen something a little more in depth. My favorite part of the book was the discussion on the scientists in the very early part of the twentieth century who pioneered the science that made rocket flight possible. That part was the most interesting and worth further study.
