Edit: I keep thinking about this book, and not in a good way. Now that I’ve digested it and sat on it for a little while, I’ve decided that I wouldn’t actually recommend this book. It is an easy read. It was entertaining, I suppose. But I just really didn’t like the writing style.

Original Review: Was this my favorite book ever? No. But it was easy to read, entertaining enough, and a times endearing. I’d recommend it if you want some light and quick to read as a palate cleanser.

I do listen to the Lady Gang podcast, and I really enjoy it. I admit that my standards for “good writing” are high, and this book was not written to be a literary classic. You can definitely hear the voices of each host as you read their stories, which is both good and bad. Writing in their voices makes the stories feel more personal, but it’s also distracting from the story.

Overall, the book was fine. It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t great. It was fine.

The women behind the LadyGang podcast are back with this follow up to their debut book, Act like a lady. I REALLY, really enjoyed this collection of stories from both Keltie, Jac and Becca, as well as a group of anonymous stories from their fans that was read by Fiona Hardingham with a beautiful British accent.

In the book the authors share some of their most deeply held secrets, heartbreaks and embarrassing moments -- the things women are often too ashamed to admit out loud. Full of emotional vulnerability, I was deeply moved, felt incredibly seen and understood and it was unbelievably powerful!! I cannot recommend this audiobook enough!!

While part two will make you laugh out loud from the crazy, cringe-worthy anecdotes, part three goes deep, affirming that being a woman is hard and it's okay to not be okay all the time.

Favorite quotes:

"To every lady that sent in a vulnerable secret we commend you on your courage...Sometimes just being alive is fucking hard...You could take all the anti-depressants and go on all the wellness trips and master all the yoga poses and still feel fucking broken inside. And that's okay."

"The brutal truth is that the world can be heartbreakingly awful to women. Even when women do muster up the courage to share their deepest and darkest moments, they are often victim-blamed, invalidated or not believed. As women we have become so comfortable with grinning and bearing very painful parts of life, we learn at a very young age to just stuff it down, pretend it doesn't exist and move on with our lives."

TW: some of these stories could be hard to read and cover things from abortion to miscarriage - read with care.

Huge props to Becca for sharing that one story. That can’t have been easy to share, especially with all the judgement these days.

I went into this book not knowing anything about the authors, thinking it was just a bunch of funny short stories. Unfortunately, I was left extremely disappointed. The stories by the authors were not relatable and were barely funny at all. Only giving 1.5 stars because of the anonymous stories which were mildly entertaining.

It's hard for me to write reviews on a book which tells real true stories from multiple people. I enjoyed reading everyone's stories but again I needed to be in the right headspace to read this.

Great audiobook! Fun and original concept. A lot of “LOL” moments.

2.5/5 - I am a huge fan of TLG, but this book just didn't do it for me. I absolutely loved hearing about all the stories and secrets, and my heart breaks for that one girl who was uhm...in not a great relationship, but I could have went without hearing Jac, Becca, and Keltie's pages upon pages stories of "secrets" that were not even that juicy. Definitely not my favorite book of theirs, but hey, maybe the next one will be better.

Loved! It’s like Chicken Noodle Soup for the Soul, but all stories from women. It challenges the idea that when men make mistakes or so weird things, it’s celebrated among their peers. But women hide every mistake or strange thing that happens to them. It’s the perfect coffee table book to pick up and read an excerpt when you want a pick me up!
