this book's biggest crime is how boring it is, it took me literal months to get thru this. why am i so bored by a serial killer thriller who commits stylistically hannibal-esque murders? the story just drags on for so long that there is no sense of tension, but also jumps from pov to pov that i don't actually care about any of them. scandinavian thrillers also just can't seem to resist adding some kind of sex scandal in somewhere lmao. sara is giving manic pixie dream journalist and is of course sooooo sexy and mysterious and cool to the other male characters without realising it. this book's saving grace is that i don't care about it so much that i can't bring myself to hate it and give it 1 star.

Minulla on hyllyssäni sarjan toinen osa, Luvattu maa, jonka Jungstedt on kirjoittanut ilman Eliassenia - annan sille jossain vaiheessa mahdollisuuden.

This was a really solid first start to what will be an interesting mystery series set on the island of Gran Canaria, featuring a predominantly Scandinavian cast of characters. The characters were fantastic to get to know and it was really interesting to learn all of their backstories and how they all had their own demons, their own skeletons in their closet.

A serial killer is terrorizing Gran Canaria and it's up to reporter Sara, consul Kristian, and detective Quintana to figure out whodunit. A Scandinavian tourist goes missing and is found dead. Could Frank, also known as Samsara Soul, owner of a local yoga retreat where the tourist was staying, be connected? The book kept me constantly guessing and it was fun to try to figure out the mystery.

This was a quick read, well-paced with great character development. A solid four stars from me, and I will likely keep an eye out for future books in this series.
