I've never experienced debilitating anxiety, so THE GRAY helped me understand what happens to the mind and body in such situations. Its descriptions are vivid, interesting and empathy-inducing. Sasha is a wholly sympathetic and likable character. His anxiety is only a small part of who he is. As he learns to control its symptoms, he becomes a stronger, more confident boy. It's easy to root for his success in dealing with all of his many challenges. His friendship with Eli is especially sweet and wholesome. I enjoyed watching it develop while also seeing Sasha develop as a character. As far as plot goes, THE GRAY is a slower read, but I cared enough about the characters to keep reading. In the end, I found it to be a warm, empowering, satisfying read that teaches important lessons about overcoming difficulties, not judging others based on rumors, standing up for one's self but also forgiving others for their mistakes, etc. I liked it overall.

Thank you Chris Baron for sharing this book with me. I feel so honored I was able to read it early! Chris has a way with bringing stories to life, with poetry and prose! I loved the message in this book and how everything was tied up in the end! You must get this book!

This book was a bit too real for me. Kids who experience anxiety will find a kindred spirit in Sasha. I struggled with the idea that folks in town are wary of Eli. I was also jealous of the fact that Sasha has the opportunity to spend a month in the country with his cool aunt in order to alleviate his mental health challenges.
