2.5 stars, rounded up for information not usually found in picture books. A passable but unengaging narrative, which is a shame, since the subject is interesting. The repetition of the phrase "the sequoia lives on" might have been an attempt to be poetic or to create a thread throughout the book, but instead of meshing with the context as an integral component, it sounded forced, out of place, and unnecessary.

The three-year-old kept getting distracted by the comparisons... Look! Three whales! and then Wait! Where are the elephants? Where are the bathtubs?
But overall a lovely experience.
