I enjoyed this book, but it felt a little rushed at the end. I think Garett deserved a chance to be angry, and not to be portrayed as the hopeful youth the entire story.

This was glorious!

This is the kind of book I read with a fear, a fear that it's going to end too soon, and wasn't it the truth here? I wasn't ready to part ways with my MC and LI (and a few others). The rest, good riddance!

The story has a secondary thing happening here and there (and I'd love to have a follow up on them in the future), but the plot revolves mainly around Chance and her self acceptance and that was more than enough, IMO. To be honest, if the author had decided to drop that last bit of drama I'd be cool, because throughout the book the whole judgment by herself/her peers thing was good enough to fill this aspect of the story. And I'm very glad Chance came around this nonsense.

Garrett was the most beautiful character here, inside and out, even with that thing I can't say; how she elevated and supported Chance and stood her grounds was first class! We all should be like this and deserve to be with someone like that. I wouldn't say no if the universe gave me a 5 years older version of Garrett to call babe hahaha.

Now a message for Chance. Girrrrrl! you should look for a doctor, it's not normal for a person to have this many arses; and you have/had a lot disguised as friends. No one deserves to be treated like a bag of shite, disposable, second best, much less because of some stupid ass black bird.

And finally, bless the authors who write nonconforming couplings — e.g., butch-butch action. it may be my bubble [I'm very open to suggestions, people, send me some pls - as long as it has a HEA/HFN and isn't too heavy on angst], but I hardly ever see this kind of pairing in stories, I think it's subversive in a way and I live for it. Fiona always delivers!

You see, not matter how they present themselves to the world, two women together are just beautiful.

p.s.: is this thing with mascs really this strong? It's been over a decade (my early 20s) since I fraternized with a big group of queer friends and although people sometimes had some sort of dated ideas, I never saw the masc x femme discussion the way I see on social media (and books) sometimes today. Granted, I personally never saw a masc-masc relationship happening, but it may be because we were some sort of weirdos, no one had a style per se, just young things, playing sports, board games and hanging out in the beach, while wearing battered T-shirts, jeans in all forms and slippers.

I loved this!!! Chance is so precious, I loved her growth through this story. Such a cute romance while still having deep emotion. Overall a very satisfying read!

“Stud like Her” by Fiona Zedde.
This was a super interesting dive into Black queer culture—something I know very little about. I’ve only recently learned how stud is a very specific identity and how white people took it and misapplied it. The story has nothing to do with appropriation, it’s about a Black stud being attracted to other studs and coming to terms with that attraction. Spicy. Super likable people. And I’d really hope there’s a cool as place like MayBelle’s when I need it.
