Very much enjoyed this. So atmospheric. Not sure what to rate it. It did surprise me, not what I was expecting, but not in a bad way.

Very well written, haven't read a novel with such a good perspective and thought description of a character through a third-person perspective. Nothing is very much explained and any theories you attempt to predict along the way only contradict themselves to the point where the book ends and there ends up being no mystery to solve. Very funny dialogue, sometimes confusing in the later pages. Nothing like the show adaption. I find the show to be better. Two very separate stories.

It's rare that a book can give me spine-tingling shivers! Whether you're a ghost story lover or not Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House is a page turner and beautifully written!!
Warning: this book may make you question reasonably mundane happenings thinking you might actually live in a cursed and haunted house when really all your neighbours were having their fire alarms tested and you had no idea what was going on nor associate the shrill rings with fire alarms instead thinking a ghost was tantalising you
