Ugh. Loved this. So much science. Just enough whimsy. Advice for society. Well researched and well presented.
That epilogue thoughhhhhh 🫰🏼🔥

This book unfortunately wasn't for me. I found it to be kind of a slog to get through, and it took me way longer than anticipated to finish it. Perhaps my anthropology degree was more of a hinderance than a help to my enjoyment of this book because I've engaged with most of the ideas in this book already, and in a way that I personally found more compelling during my program. I also didn't particularly care for Newitz's writing style in this context; I like my nonfiction to be a little more academic.
All that is to say, there's nothing particularly wrong with this book, and I would definitely recommend it if you're interested in the topics it covers. It just, again, wasn't for me personally.

3.5 ⭐️ Fun and informative read. Appreciated that it was intentionally not Eurocentric, but it did feel a bit repetitive at times.

Decently interesting book; though my main complaint is the audiobook narrator. Never have I though the narrator was so out of place. This woman should be reading a contemporary fiction with an unlikable narrator. Yellowface for example. It just took me out of the book. It read like it was a fiction story, not a nonfiction book about archeology. Really weird. Never encountered this before.
