Thargen is Intense.

I'm glad we inadvertently got a back story for Urgand as well. I figured he wouldn't have his own story because he isn't mated to a human but I still wanted to know. Back to this story's characters, I LOVE Yuri. And I like how this played out.  Ok, I'm done!

Honestly really liked this one. I think Yuri and Thargen had the best banter and maybe the best built relationship so far? I also loved them both. They were fun and they did really have super tragic backstories that like they needed to get past. They just kinda were. Like they knew who they were and are happy with that. And they were funny. Which I liked. They seemed to be able to make a really shitty situation not so bad which I loved. It did drag a little in the middle while Thargen and Yuri were working out their desire for one another. But other then that really good. Also keen to see how the next book goes, since we’ve met the next two mains.

The teasing in this book was almost too much. I definitely exclaimed, “COME ONNNNN,” several times. It was worth the wait though.

THIS AND SHIELDED HEART ARE MY FAVORITES FROM THE ENTIRE SERIES. The "I'm mean to everyone but you trope" the "I can help him and ACTUALLY helps him" and the "I hate this thing but I'd do it for you" UGH. TALK ABOUT PERFECT FOR ONE ANOTHER. Where can I get my own, big hot brute with piercings who can toss me around??

I think this is officially my second favorite book in the series. It's a bit of a slow burn, with SO much sexual tension.

If you love berserker, orc-like heroes who can only be calmed by their sweet mate, then this one is for you. Be warned that this is a gorey, violent, action filled, survival story for most of the book. This is my favorite in the series so far, and I really enjoyed the others, too. The two characters meet in the Infinite City, but are quickly thrust into a dire situation where Thargen is able to show how caring and protective he can be to Yuri.

I love this couple and their story! I couldn't put this one down. I could just feel the connection between Thargen and Yuri. I loved their banter, chemistry, the fact that they talked to each other about their lives and got to know each other. I would happily have Thargen as a mate, and I thought Yuri was relatable and likeable as the heroine. I personally suffer from involuntary reactions like she does to blood, so I thought that flaw of hers was realistic. Despite that, she is tough, thoughtful, and funny. She's a gamer, too, so I totally got her humor and quirky banter/actions. She is a 24 yr old v1rgin by choice, but she's not timid or prudish. She's definitely down for Thargen.

There's instant attraction in this, but it's still a slow burn that lets their love grow. I also was so happy that they didn't fight their feelings for each other and were able to tell each other they loved each other without a bunch of drama/angst. The main issue (besides survival) is about having s3x because Thargen is afraid he'll hurt her.

I was riveted for the first half of the book. By a little over half way I was as frustrated as Yuri about Thargen's reluctance in going all the way, but I appreciated that she made sure to talk directly with him about it like two grown adults in a relationship. So while there was a bit of lack of communication for a time, it gets resolved in a way I liked because I never like miscommunication between the couple that just keeps going for no good reason.

In regards to the spicy scenes, I thought they were all steamy, but I want to warn that the scene where Thargen finally goes for it was a little... rough at first, but Yuri helps him calm and still enjoys herself. Many times before that Thargen does warn the reader and Yuri that he's worried about his control and hurting her (because of an incident where he did unwittingly hurt someone during consensual s3x) , so it was kind of expected, but thankfully all works out.
