Loved the retelling of Huckleberry Finn through Jim’s voice. Any school teaching Huckleberry souls also teach James at the same time.

Timing!  This arrived on my final day of isolation with covid, so I got straight into it - when I could wrestle it away from my son!  Such intelligent commentary about race.  I'm now looking for Everett's back-catalogue, starting with Erasure, because I adored the film version "American Fiction".  It is so believably written, BUT I don't want to believe that African-Americans ever lived with this level of bigotry and mistrust.

One of my top 10 reads of 2023 will recommend everyone I know to read it.

Such a devastating insight into slavery traumatic experiences, brought to life via following James, his thoughts & feelings as freedoms his family & other slaverys he finds on his way.

It is beautifully written & I will never forget this. This book should be on education curriculum, to change racist abusive & controlled cultures around the world.
