"People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is 'you're safe with me'- that's intimacy."

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. I cried, laughed and was furious at the decisions and actions of most characters and yet I found myself deeply caring about them.

The author created a unique story with real  characters, who made terrible decisions but who you still couldn't help but love? I fell in love with Evelyn Hugo's story and couldn't help but feel for her and the things she went through.

I feel conflicted in rating this book, while I loved the representation and raw talks about sexuality and sex, I just didn't like Celia and Evelyn's relationship. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED READING ALL ABOUT IT! But the fights, fights and even more fights just got a tad frustrating through the book, which is the reason why I settled on a 4/5. Overall it was an amazing read and I can definitely see myself picking this up again in the future!

For me, great character development almost always ends up being a 5 star book, exciting, thrilling Evelyn Hugo

What an emotional book! This made me feel a lot of things, and I'm glad. I loved the story, and it was super fast-paced. Also, I'm glad I'm kind of getting into this trend of morally-grey female main characters. I've read several of them now, and it's honestly fun to just be along for her crazy decision-making ride. Just a note: I'm so glad Evelyn is the real main character of this story, because Monique annoyed me.
Also, I was sort of questioning the plot twist at the end, but now I'm not. I think everything happened as it needed to, and the thing with her dad dying and being gay just served to drive home one of the points of the book.  I do think toward the end it's a bit rushed, basically since Harry died (I cried!!!), but I think that also has a purpose. It all shows how Evelyn cares about things. She focused the most on her and Celia's glory days, when they were one big happy family.
I think that was done because this is Evelyn telling her story the way it wants to be told. She had the best memories of that time, so that's why it's the longest stretch of the book. I just loved the whole plot of this, and I did feel for the characters, even though they were not the best people. I think this book perfectly encapsulates old Hollywood with a new lens to look through.
