"Final girl is film-geek speak for the last woman standing at the end of a horror movie."

I've learned that Riley Sager's books are best on audio for me.
A narrator better executes the plot compared to when I read it; I'm not sure why that is. Final Girls had a prolonged start. I had trouble understanding Quincy because her logic wasn't all there. The flashbacks to the cottage felt super draggea out, and I would ve preferred more action than bland dialogue. I think I went into this expecting more slasher elements and blood rather than a dive into the psyche of a survivor story; it was a unique approach once I got out of personal expectations. Excellent writing and plot twists, but not my favorite of his.

I found this book to be decent. It kept me entertained and interested, and it even managed to genuinely surprise me at the end, which isn't the easiest thing to do. But the characters were a tough swallow for me, and in a thriller you need to care about the characters a lot or what's even the point. I look forward to more books by Riley Sager

Riley Sager is one of my absolute favorite mystery/thriller/horror authors. I have read several of his books and have never been disappointed. His plot twists are masterful. He leaves breadcrumbs throughout the story, but I am never able to guess the ending and/or "who did it." The ending to this book literally blew my mind because I never saw it coming. I love it when authors can keep me guessing until the very end and surprise me in the best ways.

I let this one sit before I wrote anything on it. I read some other reviews, and was not at all shocked to find out that Riley, is in-fact a man not a woman, something I figured out on my own with the way these ladies in this book were written. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed it otherwise. There's a few negatives, maybe more than a few, but what book is perfect really?

You start with Quincy, she's.....flat? Sure, she's a final girl and that comes with some merit but her base character is boring. Her boyfriend, is boring. The only thing slightly interesting about her life is Coop. until Sam comes of course. After Sam arrives, you spend so much time watching Quincy change and disliking Sam that some of the story gets lost. And there are a lot of GLARINGLY OBVIOUS signs of where this book is going.

I quite liked the Pine Cottage chapters more than the actual narrative of Quincy's present day life. I wish we got more of those than we did. Although, the end of this book sort of makes up for that I suppose. The twist ending I did NOT see coming, which I really enjoyed. I was yelling at my car dashboard while listening to it because I was rooting for this specific character. and am bummed about it.

Here's what I HATED and how you can tell a dude wrote it; Quincy sleeps with EVERYONE....except Craig. She wants to lose her virginity to him and just for one second she hesitates and he leaves her because of this, which is stupid but the way he's written makes it sound like he's trying to make him justified by leaving (he's not. god forbid your girlfriend says give me a second) and he's off to sleep with the best friend ( big shock couldn't see that coming (sarcasm)) which happens in real life, the best friends sucks though lets be real. and after Craig leaves, Joe says she's pretty so she screws him? this complete stranger? "I have a moment of hesitation with my boyfriend I really like but ooops two seconds after this guy I just met who is a total stranger tells me I'm pretty he's inside me." fuck off. and then she fucks Coop because "she's always wanted to" while she's with Jeff. again, fuck off.

LOVED the main character! She was so good! And the back and forth between who the killer was! So good!

wow, this book has a lot to take in. there was several points where I thought I had figured it out, I was wrong. I liked the ending and getting an update on characters. it was so hard to put the book down during the last 150 pages.
