Such a beautiful read. The writing is so captivating. Left me wanting more in the end.

I think Cuffy suffers from the grandeur of her own ambitions. The book has too many plot points and has not quite figured out what it wants to be, but also tries to hard to nail the themes it address. Cece's inner monologue gets repetitive and overwhelly emphasizes the point that she is the first Black Ballerina, it feels like this is a book wtitten about race the way people except Black people to experience race. And Paul's intergartion into the story does not always work linearly or logically with progression of the story, which as a minic of grief, but oddly enough is the one theme not articulated enough.

3.5 stars. I am not familiar with the ballet world, however, this book is an interesting dive into the world, especially through the eyes of a black woman. I wish the family backstory was more fleshed out; I was a little more invested into it. This book would've been a lot better if it was longer.
