The characters were annoying and extremely unlikable. I felt like I was reading/listening to a bunch of middle schoolers. Plot was meh, storytelling was also meh. I tried to finish it but couldn’t.

Amazing as always!!

I truly thought I’d never love someone as much as I loved Penny but this book took me by surprised!! Breene has an amazing knack for making very likable, very relatable lead women and you can’t miss this journey!

I tried many times to get into KF Breene's books but it just wasn't clicking for me until this one. I enjoyed this main character much more than the other ones (Midlife Levelling, Reagan, Penny) and it was fun to be brought along for the ride as Charity discovers the magical world. Also, werewolf romances are my weakness and this trope gave the book a big plus point.

Outstanding

I read a LOT and I must say, DDVN is one of my absolute FAVORITE worlds! It’s like coming home!
Charity is a perfect addition to our world of bad ass women. I love how the author wove her seamlessly into this world, perfectly finding her spot in Rogers world- in my opinion, anyway.
Reading Regan coming into the book was like a warm hug- from a surly, leather clad, Fanny pack wearing, friend. Good GOD these characters are awesome.

If you’re on the fence about a fantasy world with shifters & vamps & magic- who come in second to badass women, you NEED to read this series. Start with Born in Fire and prepare to lose yourself in this fantastic world. Not only is is well written, it’s amazingly memorable, which is refreshing.

I love this series, but this book fell flat for me. There was some notable ick-moments with plenty of toxic masculinity and the MCs’ chemistry just wasn’t there. Devon was an asshole most of the time, lusted after the bombshell transfer, then just magically switched to the MFC. Charity went from high-fiving his slutty attitude and having absolutely no interest to groping him in his sleep. She also seemed waaay too OP at the drop of a hat. It’s definitely more YA. I’ll try to read the next book for the sake of the series of a whole, but this one was a letdown.

This has a real YA/NA vibe to it that was odd, given that the rest of the DDVN series really doesn't.

The hero, Devon, was an alpha-hole who funneled all emotions through rage. He was constantly yelling at or belittling the heroine, Charity.

And she was overly young and naive, swinging rapidly between fury at how he'd treat her to feeling bad for losing her temper. And the two of them mostly interacted by screaming at or punching each other a lot.

And then somehow in the end, they were declaring their love for each other. Out of nowhere.

Honestly, if not for the interconnected DDVN overall plot, I probably wouldn't bother to read the next one. The thought of the YA angst that fortune telling will likely bring just gives me hives.

Seeing the vampires from a 'human' perspective was really scary and a good reminder how high powered everyone is.
I like having different players in the same story and can't wait to start the next book

The pacing was a bit off for me; especially at the end it felt a bit rushed. But I love these characters and I'm so glad we got to focus more on the shifters in this one!
