I bought this book at a thrift store on a whim because I wanted to read one of James Patterson’s MANY published books. I know I will not be continuing the series because the reviews state that the plots are similar. I think reading the first in the series is good enough for me.

1st To Die was good thriller. The chapters were short and left on some sort of cliff hanger or made me want to keep reading. There were two plots we were following, the killer and Lyndsey dealing with a terminal illness. I loved the strong girlhood group and how they were made up of strong females character either breaking into a field filled with men or trying to get a promotion.

I will say I didn’t care for the ending BUT it had me sweating because of how intense it was. I also think the epilogue was not necessary. ALSO, the person who died at the end…terrible.

This is typically a genre that I don’t read very often, so this review will be very limited as I have not had many experiences with books of this genre. These books are very interestign to read. The plot is interesting, a little predictable at times, but overall very well written. My favorite part is the relationships between the characters. I love the diverse group of women that we have collected over the range of these series. I love all the different personalities and jobs they have. I love the idea of women meeting to uncover crimes and sip some margaritas. I would say these books are very casual in righting, they are straight-forward and simple. So if you’re looking for a literary masterpiece with metaphors and great use of literary devices, this might not be the book for you. The book is still very good, but sometimes it fails at setting the correct for the scene. In some parts where major events were happening, I felt not the right emotions because I didn’t feel the moment. There was no strategic pauses or eluding sentences that had the intended effect on me. I will say that writing from the killer’s perspective is a really interesting way to create the mystery in the story and create suspense. I really liked seeing the mind behidn the kills. It adds a nice touch to the story. Overall, a pretty good read.
