This was a mediocre but enjoyable book. The author has some interesting ideas about self determination and gender representation but it felt more like lip service than character development. For a standalone novel it does have a lot of references to what I assume are the other books in the series.

Something I found really interesting is that the chapters with Enae made me realize how much pronouns are used in third person writing. I hardly notice traditional pronouns, but the use of neo-pronouns made it much more obvious.

This book was more predictable than others in series, but still a very fun read. Leckie writes aliens beautifuly, there's a proper sense of otherness.
Also Qven saying "I'm not a potato" had me audibly laughing every time.
