Something switched over in Winter, and her soft, golden eyes darkened. The word feral pushed forward in Liza’s mind.

2.5 stars. This started out with a lot of promise, but sadly kinda fizzled out? Given how short this was, I knew I was in for insta love, and given that it's a paranormal shifter romance, I knew it would be fated mates. But like, when I think fated mates, I think of irresistible connections and a lot of passion, and idk, compared to what I expected out of this little novella, the reality was a little staid? But it was sexy, and I liked the family themes, and the fact that both women got the chance to break away from toxic, controlling relationships. Gotta say, it didn't feel like an age gap romance at all, and I wish there had been more shifting, or at least more world-building about the shifting. But I won't quibble too much. This was a fun little read.

Tiana is a good author and the story was interesting, but ultimately, I just think she bit off more than she could chew in this limited space. The story and themes were just too complex for such short a book, which led to it not being that good. There was infodump, telling (instead of showing), underdevelopment of themes and the pace was too quick—enough to give me whiplash. The chemistry between the main characters was very good but yeah, it just didn’t make up for the issues I had with this one. 2,5⭐️
