Whether or not you've read S.R. Karfelt's first book, Warrior of the Ages, you MUST dive in to book 2. As a prequel, BLANK can be read in any order, either before or after WOA.

BLANK is by far my favorite book in the series. It's an intense whirlwind through the life of Carole Blank - not your average foster care chick. We walk with Carole through life, aching for her, rooting for her, and running with her as she discovers what she is, and what she is not.
Carole will do anything, and I mean anything, for those she loves. Her selflessness and loyalty are above and beyond the average human female.
But then...Carole is anything BUT the average human female.

Oh wait, did I mention she's super strong, insanely fast, and hears voices in her head that have NOTHING to do with being a schizophrenic? After all, the voices are always right. They never lie.

Karfelt is a unique storyteller. Anyone who has read her first book could tell you as much. She has a way of bringing you into the story and passing time in such a natural flow, breaking the "rules" without the reader ever feeling like they've been introduced to something new. She's a character strong writer, and her characters are flesh and blood - there's nothing two dimensional about the living people in this book.

Come, step into Carole's world. For every time your heart shatters with Carole's, the Shieldmaiden will pick herself right back up and keep going.
