Considering this came out in 2006 some of the information is still viable. Mostly when it comes to world building and characters. But it is good if you're a Stephanie plum fan!

Super outdated at this point. The narrator was also weird and the version I listened to was out of order for some reason.

This is a wonderful book of general advice on how one of the funniest and well-written authors writes. Although it applies to all general fiction, it has some great advice for romance and mystery writers, and a little about the publishing business, too. This is a great reference! Highly recommended!

Great advice for a novice writer, and a fun, fast moving glimpse into Evanovich's mind and process, but not much here for a more experienced writer. The book is ~6 years old, and it's starting to show its age. Social media, self publishing, and general internet-related advice is very dated. For example, there's no mention of electronic submissions, but several paragraphs about preparing/shipping manuscripts. Some publishing houses don't even accept paper submissions anymore. Other advice, like setting a writing schedule, and joining Sisters in Crime or RWA, is still spot on. There's nothing deep or particularly revealing here, but it's still a fun, quick read.

I'm not a reader or writer of fiction but I found this book to be very helpful. I learned a lot that will help with my non-fiction book writing such as the mindset of a writer(I believe this is Janet's key to success), how to become a better writer, editing tips, dealing with rejection, navigating the journey to becoming a successful author and more. Ive read this book twice now, I picked up a lot more tips this second time around. Fantastic read full of wit, humor and kick-in-the-pants advice. Pure gold for beginners!

A positive, upbeat and light take on writing. Quite outdated, though.

Like her work, this was a quick fun read. It's fun to hear a genre fiction writer explain things from this point of view. Definitely useful on my cozy journey, even if her stories aren't cozy
