Another delightful entry in the Baby Ganesh Agency series! This in-between novella can easily be read as a stand-alone and would be an excellent introduction to the series. In this one, former Mumbai police Inspector Chopra and his baby elephant ward, Ganesha, are traveling on the Monsoon Express. Also on board are celebrities, politicians, and diplomats from India and Pakistan involved in delicate negotiations. Tensions are high and when a senior diplomat is found murdered in his cabin, Chopra must act swiftly to unmask the murderer before the train reaches its final destination and the news goes public, which will undoubtedly cause fragile negotiations between India and Pakistan to derail. This felt like a modern twist on a classic Agatha Christie mystery, which I enjoyed very much. I still marvel at the fact that a baby elephant makes for such a believable and effective detective sidekick. I cannot wait to read another installment in the series soon!

This is a cozy mystery novella has a Murder on the Orient Express vibes, but with a baby elephant as the detective's sidekick! This is my first Vaseem Khan book, and I had so much fun reading it.
Last Victim on the Monsoon Express is a quick read, none of those lengthy plot twists but not a single boring moment, either. There weren't a lot of clues to help me guess who committed the murder and so the story kept me hooked till the end.
There were laugh-out-loud moments for me and I loved Inspector Chopra. I definitely look forward to reading the other books in the Baby Ganesh Agency series.

Very few authors - if any - could write an atmospheric, satisfying murder mystery with interesting characters and evocative prose that also covers the history of Partition and the Emergency in 150 pages. Vaseem Khan is not one of them.

I like mysteries from the Indian subcontinent so I was excited to try this (Vish Puri being my favorite investigator at this time). But I didn't enjoy this book. Though it had a promising beginning, I felt that the author wasn't a good writer. He used too many words to move the story along. I dnf'd because I didn't feel anything, I didn't care about the characters or the story so I just dnf'd it.

Great, easy holiday reading. Not much thought required. An entertaining story with lots of “Could it have been them?” moments along the way
