Read it again, and I still loved it. :) The sparks between Max and Aurelia are still hot. Underlining the antagonism between them is undeniable sexual attraction. They've known each other almost all their lives, practically grew up together, and each secretly suppressing an attraction and affection for the other. For Max, it came on suddenly, when he realized that Aurelia wasn't a little girl anymore, but an attractive beddable woman. And he hates the attraction for a few reasons. One, because she's his best friend's little sister (which makes her off limits), and two, because he thinks Aurelia is a brat. As for Aurelia, she always loved Max and one unfortunate day, her school girl heart is crushed to discover Max bedding a servant girl. Since then, she's determined to hate him. Or so she convinces herself.

Sexy. I wasn't sure if I would like the storyline or not, but it really worked. Aurelia and Max were great. This is my first time reading Sohpie Jordan and it won't be my last. I'll definitely give the other books in this series a read.

Definitely better than some other romance novels I've tried! But not as good as Sarah Maclean.

To be honest, I am quite torn with this book. It was extremely entertaining and captivating but the male lead is incredible callous toward the female lead and often demeans her. The ending also felt quite rushed.

This book is truly saved by its writing and the sexual chemistry. It genuinely is some of best and enticing sex scenes I’ve read in these historical romance novels so far. It’s not too crude but not too vague either.

There’s not much to say other than that. I’m intrigued enough to check out the other books in this series but i’m indecisive as to whether I’ll commit to reading them

The chemistry is nice and the premise is solid but there is no examination of the harm that British primogeniture does, no diving into the cartoons the main lead makes - they were described as political but no politics or any opinion for that matter are present.

The heroine is very one dimensional and has no relationships or personality outside of her heartbreak over a crush she had at 15 (the implied listing after a minor thing was also weird but luckily, like everything else in the book it was never expanded on).

There is no examination of the need for marriage as a means of survival for both her career and not to be a burden on her brother (again, very weird white British culture, but not the point). There is no expounding on the politics of visibility when intersecting with love and there is the finger snap transformation.

Very frustratingly disappointing read.

*I received this book from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review*
This was an okay romance book. Aurelia and Max start off friends, move to hating each other, and then back to liking each other. Where I really struggled with this book is Max's treatment of Aurelia. He was quite awful, and never really apologized to her. It was just understood that he was sorry and she forgave him. It just didn't sit right with me, and I really wanted him to feel remorse and have to grovel a little bit. 2.5 stars.
