things I loved about this book:
the banter and the humor (literally LOL’d while reading this). the surprisingly complex themes discussed re: sexuality, family, grief, mental health. how developed the relationships between the characters were. all the literature and history references!

things I did not love about this book:
how long it was; I felt like it was never going to end. how this book was not sure if it was a romance or political essay (contributing to the length). how sometimes the dialogue was a little cringe. how everyone was somehow dating their British counterpart (just got repetitive). and finally, how Alex’s solution to life was going to law school — puke (coming from a current law student).

all those criticisms being said, I do think this is a special book and I would definitely recommend it to the right person.

This was awful. Fluffy fiction certainly has a place in my heart, but this was mind-numbingly pointless. I kinda liked the characters, but drunk gay sex can’t sustain a reader’s interest without something resembling a plot. I gave up and didn’t finish. Can’t believe this was a Goodreads winner!??

is it perfect? no.
Is it perfect for what it's trying to be? yes, absolutely. It's great, read it.

(also, it feels like someone should go to jail for not including June in the movie, it's a crime)

It's suggary sweetness and light hearted. Problems get resolved quickly and it really picks up once the romance element really gets going. It can drag a little when it gets to the politics.
