I never know how to review poetry. For me, reading poetry is so personal. And maybe that’s why it’s hard to rate and review. I really liked the style of the poems in this book. It’s clear that Paige Lewis has tremendous skill and I look forward to reading more of their work.

The Solace: This was so beautiful. The collection of poems had great connecting themes that made this feel whole. I loved all the odd lines creating new imagery in my brain, and so many made me feel in all caps. There were moments of laughter, pain, familiarity, "hell yeah," and openness.

The Dread: There were moments when I, too, felt "stupid, and [it was] hard to sleep knowing so little about everything." Some just were too high for me to grasp or connect with. But poetry is like a painting of the ocean - you're meant to get the idea or even your own feelings, not all the nuances of the actual ocean.

Overall, this was both dreamy and visceral - it will sit with me for a while.

Imagine my surprise. I pick this up at the library; think, "Oh, I've wanted to read this"; I read it and love it, sending lines to a friend almost every other minute. I go to StoryGraph to mark it as read and give it 5 stars. I had already read it!! I gave it 3 stars!! I didn't remember reading this at all!! I am so sorry to Paige Lewis for not giving their collection the time it deserved. I was clearly wrong the first time. The language here just *sparkled* and I can't wait to purchase my own copy so I never forget the time I was wrong and silly and didn't understand how to sit with poetry. Geez.
