Perhaps the most unique Regency Romance I have read as the setting is almost entirely aboard a ship. The characters are lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I have had this on my kindle for awhile and finally got around to reading it. I liked the unique plot and setting - taking place briefly in Jamaica, then a ship then England. I loved the build of the romance between Amelia and William and the mystery of the plot. I also enjoyed that Amelia wasn’t a typical lady of that time - she has spunk and a sharp mind. The final grand gesture was perfect. I just wanted a little more from the epilogue.

Content Notes: Kisses, wartime violence

This book gave me the relationship in Outlander but without the time travel and spice. It was very cute. I love a competent, intelligent MC and an honorable, funny love interest.

Wow! I loved how not only it is a great regency romance, but has lots of action in it as well. Has to be one of my very favorites in that genre.

I LOVED this book! It got my attention from the beginning and was fun and exciting. I finished it in 2 days (I wish it were longer!) because I love them together!

It was enjoyable at times, and a cringe-fest at others. But overall it was a pretty average reading experience.

Starting on the positives, I liked the plot. I think it was original, an amazing idea. Also, it was pretty-fast paced. This is a positive only because I've been struggling to keep reading some books lately, based on the length of the chapters -- having said that, it's very subjective.

Now, the other hand.

For my taste, having read and enjoyed multiple Jane Austen novels (the reason I seek more regency novels), it lacked depth. Sometimes, the change from one plot point to another was abrupt and left this rushed kinda feeling. The only thing I can compare it to, is fanfiction. It was as if the author was so excited to go from point A to B, then from B to C, but didn't know how to smoothly transition.

The dialogues were kinda cringe at times. Some conversations were enjoyable, and then others felt kind of out of place and dramatic for no reason. It wasn't very consistent.

The characters? They lacked flaws. The male lead and his friend were mostly okay. At least, compared to Amelia. She was a Mary Sue, there's no other way to describe her. She does everything right and everyone likes her, except for maybe two characters that were specifically made to dislike her. The villains felt so cartoonish and ridiculous.

I would have loved for the finale to have more depth. It was underwhelming.

Conclusion: I would have liked it to be better, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Absolutely a five star book! This is one of my favorite regency era novels of all time and I have read a lot of regency novels. It takes place mostly on ship, but that doesn't stop the author from working her magic. I thoroughly and completely loved this book!

This was an enjoyable read and I could tell the author had done her research. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.
