On page one: "You have a lot of attitude for someone wearing a plaid flannel shirt."

Aurelia's mother is awful. She reminds me of Kathryn in "While My Sister Sleeps."

Only Mine by Susan Mallery

She can never have children due to her cancer.

They are in the reality show and want to follow a lead for Hollywood when they are done there. They don't want to join the family business either but never told him.
Her adoption papers come through and she gets the baby which changes her life a lot.
Steven had hooked up with Arreila and their conversation was on national TV but Fin hadn't heard the whole conversation. They did meet up and talk like brothers.

A mixed review for me on this book - on one hand I fell completely in love with the characters and the story, but the pages and pages of love scenes was at times uncomfortable and hard to read. Call me a prude, but I would have loved this book even more with a few pages omitted.

The story of an unlikely pair that from the beginning the sparks were flying, but they couldn't see them was written with such heart and truth. I became intrigued to hear more about this town full of women and the reality TV show that invaded it at every spot. The switching between characters to kept the story moving, but added depth.

Maybe I am a little naive or like my books to be a little PG13, but the sex in this book was very explicit and at times made me a little uneasy - I emailed my mom with a warning that you went in the bedroom and the characters' minds in this book.

So if you can handle the bedroom scenes, this book has a wonderful story of how life can take you down a different path, if you will only let it.

Another great read by Susan Mallery! I started reading her a few years ago and every time a new novel comes out I can't wait to get my hands on it. Only Mine was no exception which means I'll be counting down the days until the next in the series. I was very excited to be visiting Fools Gold again and being able to revisit so many characters I had fallen in love with. The story of Dakota and Finn was extremely well written. I loved the buildup in their romance but truthfully, one of my favorite scenes had to be a bare chested Finn feeding Hannah. Super sexy! I have always enjoyed how Ms. Mallery pulls in the secondary characters and romances to enrich the story and Finns super sexy brothers were a nice touch. Can't wait to come back to Fools Gold in a month!

Touching. Sweet. Story. I really liked the characters, the witty banter that caused me to actually laugh, sweet parts that made me teary, the bonus relationship. This town is too good to be true but comforting to imagine. A book is suppose to be an escape from reality, so having a sweet small town with a Starbucks can be a part of that. Looking forward to finishing all the books in the series.

I don't really know what to think of Only Mine. This is the first book by this author I have read and something was missing. I hate when I feel like there is something missing, but I can't figure out what it is.

The story starts off with Dakota meeting Finn while he is in an angry rampage. Finn is just way too overprotective of his brothers. I am not sure what he thinks he can do. The whole way through the book he just doesn't listen to anyone and just gets angry in seconds. I didn't really like him that much. I also didn't really see him being in love with Dakota.

Dakota was sweet. I liked her and wanted nothing but the best for her. I didn't really see her in love with Finn, but that's okay. I didn't really like the most likely can't get pregnant so don't worry about protection thing. I didn't like the way that ended up. I did like how she was always level headed and kept Finn in check. She was always the voice of reason, and really once she got her baby I did like the two of them together more. I also did not like the intimate moments between Dakota and Finn. They were too clinical or something. It was the best and I skimmed quickly through them.

I did like Stephen and Auriel. They were so nice together and they helped make this book enjoyable. Even though they had an age difference, they both are in similar places in their lives. Yes, Auriel has a job and Stephen has to finish school, but because of her mom Auriel is in a similar place. I really liked them together and how they helped make each other better, stronger. They added to the story.

I know that seems like I didn't like a lot of this book, and I didn't, but I didn't have it overall. I just didn't love it. It was an alright book. For some reason I feel like I should give the author another try to see if it is just this book that I didn't love. We shall see.

I have to hand it to Susan Mallery. By inventing the small California town of Fool's Gold she has created a gold mine for herself. Fool's Gold is a place where the women outnumber the men for some unknown reason. This gives Mallery plenty of opportunity to write about romances set in an interesting, caring community. There are ten novels so far and at least three more already planned. I like the links created by having the characters interact across stories.

I started this series with a short story and this is my second novel. I enjoyed the humor and even though I am not reading them in order, I am getting to know the community of Fool's Gold I plan to read more of these romances as I run across them.

I want to thank Mallery and her publisher for making her books available to public libraries as ebooks through OverDrive. I was able to download this one evening when I couldn't find anything in my house that I wanted to read. The convenience and the fact it is free to library patrons is wonderful.

If you like humorous contemporary romances that are set in a small community, you should try Mallery. The stories are fun and funny.
