Ophelia and her mother fled the south to move to Pittsburgh following the murder of her father. The two began living with their Aunt Rose and multiple cousins while trying to make enough money to live on their own. In order to do so, Ophelia and her mother both work at Daffodil Manor. But Ophie has been troubled since they moved to Pittsburgh...she can see ghosts; and there are multiple ghosts living in Daffodil Manor, including a vivacious maid named Clara. Ophie must learn about her gift and help Clara move on, all whilr dealing with mean cousins and the unjustness of racism.
A historical fiction / fantasy / mystery. The author handled the racial and socioeconomic issues delicately and age appropriately. The plot was unique and engaging!

On the night of her father’s murder, 12-year-old Ophelia sees her first ghost.
Set in the 1920s during Jim Crow and the Great Migration, Ophie’s Ghosts is an atmospheric paranormal-historical fiction novel that merges mystery, memory and curiosity as a child maid explores the inner world of a mansion owned by a wealthy white family and aims uncover the cause of death of a Black maid who once held her position. This middle grade book touches on topics of race, loss, grief, healing, peace and family.
