I kinda… loved this?? I found the way the book explored morality and the nuances around doing bad things so fascinating, and the fact that the narrator is the hero and the villain in his own story was extremely interesting. The narrator is a truly terrible person but in the most grey area way imaginable and I’m surprised at the fact that I enjoyed reading from his perspective. It was morbid, but definitely worth reading.

It was a very fun and short read. The premise was interesting and the story, although with a very minor plot  was really enjoyable. The main character was written very well and was fun to read and follow through the whole of the book!

This was not as anticipated based on the eye-catching synopsis, and while that wasn’t a problem for me, it wasn’t amazing either.

Because I wanted unfettered chaos. Instead I got the semblance of a horror short story that was more philosophical in nature, and the humour while noticeable didn’t usually land for me. I could see the funny angle but I wasn’t amused by the notion.

The Trojan horse situation was not much of reveal for me because I saw it coming. It wasn’t trying to hide the obvious, but nevertheless it was entirely too predictable when considering our unnamed narrator that is an exorcist. He was sanctioned by the powers that be without going into any depth as to who those powers were or what kind of power they had and the lack of religion involved felt strange because I didn’t have any other framework to work with.

I liked the writing style overall and would probably read from this author again, I just wasn’t blown away by what I was presented with here.

Fair warning: a sex worker
is murdered at the start of the book.

This was a fun rambling piece! I liked what worldbuilding there was. Normally I hate historical fiction but I liked the twist of 'demons are real and exorcists are real fucks about it'. The banter and prose were fun and witty to read, and I liked the characterisations. It felt like a dark comedy akin to Monty Python.
