I mean it was a good book. Single pov only Nic’s no hawke pov and I usually like having the mmc pov but oh well. Also Hawke was an actually a sweet mmc like the whole book was honestly pretty vanilla tbh. The scene in the car when they’re on x is actually pretty hot tho loll.

The book does get annoying and repetitive at some point tho, like it kept being “oh i can’t do this but i can’t stay away blablabla” over and over but its was still kinda entertaining? Also it gets really corny when they finally admit their love or wtv. And I feel like their backgrounds could be a bit more developed like idk i felt like I didn’t really know them even at the end?
But honestly overall pretty good book.

“You’re my calm in the soul, crazy in the flesh,”

The chemistry between the two MCs was undeniable... and HOT! As a sucker for the dark, tatted, brooding, tortured soul type, Hawke (MMC) had me from the very beginning. He was SO misunderstood and my heart ached for him. As the story progresses, we learn more about his past and how it shaped the way he interacts with the world. As his relationship progresses with Cole, we start to see the man behind the trauma. He may be brooding but he's also passionate, protective, adorably romantic and cuddly, and even sexier once ALL of his layers are revealed.

Cole (FMC) was guilty of misunderstanding Hawke at first too. She judged the book by it's cover and was reluctant to consider she might be wrong. Soon though, the sexual tension between the two opened doors that allowed her to see more than most others would. She fully accepted that she'd made assumptions, allowed Hawke to show her who he truly was, and accepted and loved him all the more for it in the end. Both deserved to find passion and happiness and I absolutely adored them as a couple.

I normally hate the cheating trope but I'll make an exception for this one. The book was the perfect balance between an intense, roller coaster plot and hot, hot spice... and I ate it up!

Jescie Hall always has a way of dragging the raw emotion through her characters. It’s beautiful to experience. I listened the audio, and I have to say that hearing them bring the story to life is incredible.

4.5 stars. Love a little taboo, and the character development was so good!

Hawke by Jescie Hall is an enemies to lovers, contemporary romance novel. It is a story I fell in love with from page one. I know you are thinking yeah right but yeah for real it is that good. The character development in this book is so well done. The characters really come alive and you feel as if you are there with them.
Nicole/Cole lives with her very conservative boyfriend Patrick. One day he comes home with a new roommate Hawke/Cameron who is the complete opposite of Patrick. Of course Cole and Hawke are quick to judge each other as something they are not. As they get to know each other and get to be closer they realize they are more alike then they realized. From here there relationship goes further as she sees the holes and issues in her relationship with Patrick.
I adored this book it was so well written and the characters so well developed. It does have the cheating trope which is a turn off usually but the reasoning and development towards that is well explained and well done.
Great Job Jescie Hall!
