Another fantastic kids book about Katherine Johnson. It was hard to read & not choke up thinking about all the challenges Katherine face in her life but she never gave up & was always humble.

My biggest quibble with this book is the title-Apollo 13 is barely mentioned in the book, and very little explained. I feel like that does a disservice to the many things that Johnson has accomplished. I have read the Hidden Figures book by Shetterly, and it is not a very big part of the whole story.
The illustrations and text of this book are excellent otherwise, a great balance of words and art.

Counting on Katherine by Helaine Becker is a biography about Katherine Johnson, the mathematician who calculated the flight path for NASA’s first moon landing in 1969. The book starts out by telling readers about Katherine’s childhood and her lifelong love of math. It then goes on to explain how she became a mathematician when she grew up, and how she saved Apollo 13.

The amazing true story of human computer Katherine Johnson and how she helped to make space travel possible.

Inspiring books like this one are immensely important for free reading or small research topics in classrooms.

If I could give this book TEN stars, I totally would! Great picture book biography about Katherine Johnson (see also movie "Hidden Figures") - one of the first black women "computers" to work for NASA. An amazing story and a great springboard to further research.
