Grand review of the Black/Cadrey run: It's there. It's okay. I think I'll forget about it pretty quickly. It felt like the New 52 Constantine reboot. Very clean and flashy without a lot of substance. Not really my cup of tea.

I know some fans of the original Lucifer series will pitch a fit about the slight changes in tone, but I like Black's writing, so I don't mind the shift.

This last trade paperback seemed very rushed to tie up plot threads, like the original set-up was for twice as many issues and then was cut short (from what I've read, something like this actually happened).

All-in-all you have to tilt your head and squint your eyes to convince yourself that the highest-level story arc was explained (and anticlimactically at that). This seems to be common in comics--any layer of story that lasts longer than six issues just limps along until it falls over and dies with its face in the sand. It's too bad, because it really breaks you out of the world the writers have built when the plot that is supposed to encapsulate all other plots is clumsy and sloppy like this.

The art in the "Secret Santa" issue was just awful, like almost objectively bad art (insofar as that's possible). The writing of this issue was also especially weak.

The genderbent John Constantine was fine--I like that character irrespective of genitalia, so cool. Not knowing that much about John Constantine I actually thought she was supposed to be his daughter, which was confusing.

For all of my criticisms, I enjoyed this trade more than I didn't. Also, given that a new writer was introduced in this trade, I'm surprised that they tied things up as much as they did. Props to Richard Kadrey, hope you didn't have a nervous breakdown, and I hope Holly Black bought you a nice bottle of scotch, or something, when she dropped "wrap up the second Lucifer series" in your lap.

50/100.

Ha estado bien, pero no ha tenido más. Quizás me esperaba algo... distinto y simplemente, ha confluido de forma decente. Yo buscaba algo más y no lo he encontrado.

Wow this was a rushed ending.

Not a bad series, I liked the Gaiman Lucifer, loved the Carey Lucifer, and this one was shaping up to be just as good of a series. A lot of the character interactions were what I imagined they would be under a new writer. Sort of the same but different enough where it mattered (most notably with the presence).

Felt like the writer was trying to fit six volumes of Lucifer stories into one, and it showed with the rushed ending. Bit disappointing but the series was still enjoyable. Pick this up if you like Sandman, Lucifer, or religious stories.
