I'm so confused on what decade this is. Was it 1820 or 1880 or is it in the 1900s? I get a feeling this might be another 3 star series. Like the Scots 8 books I just finished that were like murders with a side of love. Gotta be gilded ages New York; there is a mention of the Pinkerton agency.
I think I will stick to one of my all time favorites The Rose Gallagher series by Erin Lindsey.

3.5 stars. I love Joanna Shupe’s work, and I think the Uptown Girls series was her best yet. But this book was just meh for me. The story felt disjointed; plot threads were introduced then dropped. There were many characters, some of whom seemed to have secrets of their own, and they took away from the main plot (example: Nellie and the Duke). I know characters and subplots were being put into play for the rest of the series, but it was too much for one book.

Just okay story and ship, whole time I was thinking Kit is way more interesting.

It's rare when I think both the hero and the heroine are too immature to be together, but Harrison and Maddie really are that couple you hope is going to break up next week. I'm not generally a fan of childhood friends to lovers and that dislike was only furthered by Harrison's horrible, slimy attitude toward getting anything he wanted, damn the consequences. Maddie is an okay character, but lacks any real communication skills or ability to go head to head with Harrison.
