Sherrilyn Kenyon has done it once more. Another great book in the League series with the promise of the flipside of it coming in a few months. I loved Talyn and Felicia, their story was sweet and wonderful. I especially liked finding out about Nero and Jayne's husband Hadarian. All very good stuff. I will, however, say that after the horrors inflicted on Darling Cruel, Styxx, and Acheron in their various books, I'm a little meh about the stories that have followed in both series. Don't get me wrong, I love the DH & League books to pieces! But, really, it's hard to look at the problems of all these other characters and not go, "yeah it's sad you're an outcast and you were treated shitty all your life, by the way, have you met Darling Cruel who underwent untold years of unbelievable torture as a child and later as an adult that ended with him going insane and strapping bombs to himself?" You see what I'm saying? I exempt CON from this criticism for the reason that Nick never seems to wallow longer than a minute in his shitty life. He usually meets it with sarcasm and fight. Not that these other characters aren't deserving of compassion, but after 200 and change pages of brutality heaped on Styxx, kind of hard to work up more than a there there your life is crappy for the rest. No, I don't want every character to suffer, especially like Darling, Ash, Styxx, or even Zarek, in fact, I don't think I could carry on reading either series if that were the case. But being an outcast, while shitty, is not the end of the world. Hell, she's made a living by giving us outcasts who form families of outcasts that are wonderful in their weirdness! I just think that lately, some of these characters are coming off as "poor me" I'm all alone, instead of "come and get some" and I hope she goes back to that type. I truly do.

Love this series a lot. I like how this was set in the past a bit and we got to relive a little from the first book with Nykyrian and Kiara first met and the Andarians still thought he died as a young boy. Loved how Talyn was like a fierce huge teddy bear. Can't wait for the next one.

Oh, oh, oh, man, such a great book! It starts about a year before Born of Night, and only has a slight bit, and an epilogue, past Born of Night, and yeah, lots going on, it was really so fantastic to read! So much happens, and now I want his parent's book!

This book is set along the same time as the first book [b:Born of Night|2992061|Born of Night (The League Nemesis Rising #1)|Sherrilyn Kenyon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1549166388l/2992061._SY75_.jpg|1329454] in Andaria. Talyn Batur, despised by everyone he meets for being a bastard and unable to claim his outcast father's paternity, has had to fight for his military rank...literally. He's a Ring champion, undefeated against some of his world's best fighters. Unloved by all but his mother, he decides to hire a companion. Felicia chooses to contract with him after meeting him but then is terrified when her friends tell her of his reputation in the Ring. But when they're in private, he is the gentlest and kindest man she's ever known and she can't help starting to fall in love with him.
I liked reading more about the Andarians, although some of their rules and customs seem cruel. Because Talyn can't claim his paternity, he's never allowed to marry or have children. I really thought someone from his father's family would step up to claim him in the end. I like how this story ties into Nykyrian's story and gives more information about his family.

I am desperately in love with Sherrilyn Kenyon’s The League series. There, I said it. When I saw that her newest was on our list of possible review books, I literally sat up straighter in my chair and made a little noise. I will never admit it was a squee. Never. But, getting back to the point, I love Kenyon’s dark and incredibly damaged heroes, her equally damaged heroines, and the inevitability of a happy ending for the both. Guilty pleasure? Maybe. Do I feel guilty at all for reading it? Nope.

Talyn Batur is the Andarian fighting champion (in both the open and Vested leagues), a major in their air force, and all of this with absolutely no family lineage (a necessity for Andarian society). And all of this at 19 years old. Looking to find a companion, he goes to a, shall we say, matchmaking agency, who supplies legal, contracted companions. He saw an ad with the lovely Felicia Orfanos, and knew he had to meet her. Felicia is, of course, terrified - as a fighter, Talyn is incredibly vicious in the ring, undefeated in both arenas. But it doesn’t take long, minutes really, for Felicia to realize that Talyn really is the gentleman he appears to be. He may lack the parental lineage to move in society (in a world where lineage it, literally, everything), but his nature is what defines him.

The problem is, though, that lack of lineage - Talyn is viciously harassed by his CO and fellow unit members in the air force, discriminated against by everyone from the companion agency to a jewelry vendor at the market. Having a female (as wives, daughters, girlfriends, etc are referred to in this culture) has given his enemies the opening they need to truly take him down. And unfortunately for both Talyn and Felicia, their family connections, even though they are not legally recognized, could get them both killed.

Talyn is a lot like Kenyon’s other heroes - damaged, tortured, and in need of a change in his life. However, unlike the others, Talyn is just the sweetest thing! He goes out of his way to welcome Felicia into her new home and into his life, agreeing to all the requests in her contract, without negotiation, and taking time (and energy and money) to find little ways to say he’s thinking of her. He’s basically perfect. Of course, he still has his issues, but is it any wonder Felicia falls for him? I certainly did! Felicia is not my favorite of Kenyon’s League heroines, but she finds her fire about halfway through the book. She’s still timid and shy, and makes some decisions that I question (like not telling Talyn important information. Why is this always a thing?), but overall I think she’s an interesting character, and fits in well with the universe.

While I loved this book I'm not really sure how I feel about all the time hopping that happens within this series. It was interesting getting to see the Andarion worlds reaction to the change of leadership that we originally saw with Nykyrian. We got to see what happened on with the world while those shocking changes took place in a way we didn't get to see with Nykyrian. I'm curious how Talyn is going to show up in future books since he wasn't in any of the others. I'm guessing that he will be adressed in Fain's book though.

I still adore all things McQueen. I can't get enough of these aliens and their societies and romances. If you like steamy books with a mix of politics and space travel, I highly recommend these books. The League is highly enjoyable.

To much politics, even for a league book. Unfortunately, after a year of waiting, this book was disappointing. But you can't win em all. Till next year!
