I was sent this book through NetGalley for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this book. The characters & story were very well developed. I fell completely in love w/ Susanna as fast as Ian did & vice versa. Like him I definitely prejudged her. Ian & Susanna's relationship was perfect. I had the cheesiest grin on my face during every moment with them. The moment that really got me was when Ian introduced Susanna to his parents. The tears were definitely welling up; it broke my heart. I was a bit frustrated around the middle of the book when she couldn't put 2 & 2 together about Beth's death being a murder possibly brought on by "Riverton". The murder mystery part of the book along with the romance kept me hooked. My only other complaint is that end confrontation between "the 2 Riverton's' felt rushed. Honestly it confused me; I had to reread the passages at least 3x before I gave up. Would've loved to have seen a small epilogue of Susanna & Ian getting married/married life. Typical shipper request. I Will be keeping my eye out for other books written by Taylor. I would love if she told the stories of the other Macalister siblings. Maybe even back tracking & telling the story of Andrew & Clara.

I really have to be in the mood to enjoy Regency, but Erica Taylor manages to combine a lush, palpable historical atmosphere with a wry, modern voice that had me eagerly turning the pages. 'A Suitable Affair' has a masculine-yet-boyish hero, one of my absolute favorite character types, and an independent-minded heroine. The plot has some delightful twists all the way to the last page. All in all a great start to the series, and I'm looking forward to the next installment.

A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor is the first book in the Macalisters series. This regency era book tells the story of Ian Carlisle, the Earl of Westcott and Lady Susanna Macalister. Susanna is accepting a marriage proposal from someone from Ian's past. Can he help her before it's too late?
I love a historical fiction story and this was good because it incorporated in some mystery and suspense which I prefer over just a romance. The characters are interesting and I can see that this series will be interesting since the Macalister family is so large. Overall the story was solid as well as the characters. I liked that there was some backstory and how the stories melded with one another. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters #1)
By Erica Taylor
4 stars

A Suitable Affair, book 1 in The Macalisters series, was a really great historical romance read. I haven’t read anything by this author before and I really liked her writing style. The story was detailed and I really liked the characters. There were some good twists and turns in the story too which kept me fully invested in what was happening.
Susanna was a great female lead. I did feel sorry for her at times; she was desperate to find the love that she had always heard stories about but due to family influences was destined to marry someone she definitely didn’t want to. I think this was probably very fitting for the ear that they story was set in so I liked that Susanna had a little determination about her. She deserved to find somebody she loved and who loved her in return.
When Ian first comes into the story I thought he would be perfect for Susanna, he was a nice character but also so frustrating at times! They did seem to have this genuine connection which I loved.
There were some great secondary characters in the story too and I hope they get their own story!

A Suitable Affair is a historical romance book. Erica Taylor does an amazing job with historical romance/fiction genre. The subject I did not like the most in school was history. This author makes this genre exciting. Being this is a romance during the Victorian era make this even more beautiful. The characters are fully developed and complex which makes the story move quickly. This story is also interesting because it is not just a romance story, but also has elements of mystery, thrillers and psychological aspects. Lady Susanna is the main character who is in the process of finding a husband. Who will Lady Susanna find as a suiter? Will there be a forbidden love? One will have to read to find out.

A Suitable Affair is the first book in The Macalisters Series by Erica Taylor. This is a really great historical/regency romance- full of mystery, drama, revenge, humour, and so much more. Ms. Taylor is a mew-to-me author whose work I am happy to have discovered as she certainly knows how to tell a clever, captivating story.
Lady Susanna Macalister is twenty-two years old, which in 1830’s London society is getting very close to becoming an old maid. Susanna feels she has a duty to her family to find a suitable husband and takes her responsibility quite seriously. But she feels time slipping away from her, and feels her options are running out. It’s not that she wasn’t beautiful, or independently wealthy- it was her overly protective brother/s, her status, and her confident, non-conformity that had the gentlemen shying away. All except Lord Riverton who had been courting her for the past few months. She expected he would propose any day now, and that should have pleased her, but she just wasn’t all that excited by the thought. He would make a fine husband, safe, reliable, stable and ‘proper’……and oh so boring. She was afraid she was ‘settling’, instead of holding out for an epic romance- one that would sweep her off her feet and leave her breathless. But the chances of that happening are quite slim. SO, what happens when a handsome stranger nearly runs her down with his horse, while she is taking a quiet walk through Hyde Park? Why does he both intrigue and irritate her so? She can’t stop thinking about him. And when their paths keep crossing, the spark between them gets more intense. What about Lord Riverton, who is currently courting her? But, we soon learn that there is more to this handsome stranger than he’s letting on- which adds an extra element of mystery and suspense to the story- and had me flipping pages, reading as fast as I could to find out what his secrets were, and how the story plays out!
I really enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it to anyone who likes historical romance with a clever storyline. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Bring on book #2!

Thank you, Ms. Taylor!

A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters Book 1) by Erica Taylor is an historical romance and an enticing read. I usually don’t like historical romances but I did enjoy this one. Erica’s attention to detail and writing and her multi layered characters and plot made for an interesting read that kept me on my toes. This story is full of mystery and intrigue, romance and secrets and the teasing and witty banter between the main characters had me laughing out loud.

Susanna is a breath of fresh air and definitely a forward thinker who likes to push the boundaries. The strict social rules of her time only apply when she says so. She is sassy and sweet and witty and sarcastic and has found one person who can keep her from a life of boredom. Now she finds herself caught up in intrigue that could end in the worst of ways.

Ian is looking to find the person who stole his sister. The one who is responsible for so much heartache. When he comes face to face with one mysterious woman, he finds himself thinking of things he has no place thinking about. One woman that can help take his pain away but the one thing he should not have and needs to push away only he can not stay away no matter the cost.

I enjoyed Erica’s story telling and look forward to reading more from her.

Excellent book from beginning to end. This regency romance kept me enthralled throughout. It was clever, with witty dialogue and lokeable characters. I kept guessing what might happen next and could never quite catch up to the author to correctly guess the next peg in the board. A pleasant read, lovers of regency era highjinks will enjoy this charming tale.

A Suitable Affair is book one  in the Macalisters series by Erica Taylor. Another new author I get to discover. I am always eager to read new and exciting stories. Words are my passion. Reading makes my soul happy. I cherish the feeling of excitement I get when reading a good story. You can tell that a little something special is added by an author that exists just to provide stories to the world. It seems there is no limit to these creative marvels.

Lady Susan wants to be married. Ian cannot escape the darkness. An unlikely coupling, can they beat the odds? This story was hauntingly beautiful and written with precision and perfect detail. The characters were multi faceted, with varying idiosyncrasies and vast differences, all coming together to compliment, contribute and satisfy. There were unexpected twists to this story, so readers really do get more than they could imagine. A tale that never disappointed, and always delivered exceptionally. 5 stars.
