Ya know, it really sucks that we all know George Washington, and Paul Revere, but I surely don't recall learning about their female counterparts, who, in actuality, often did more than the men!!!!

Yay for Laurie Halse Anderson and Matt Faulkner for another interesting, entertaining, "it's about time" non-fiction picture book! What a great topic - the female heroes of a time when all we hear about is the white men. Cool information and awesome art, from a completely unbiased reader.

This is such a plethora of information about the women who helped make the American Revolution successful. Interesting dialogue, great illustrations, and just a teensy-weensy bit of feminine indignation that these stories aren't told along side the ones of Paul Revere, Nathan Hale, and others.

Kids will find much to pore over in this book about the women and girls of the American Revolution. Did you know that a 16-year-old girl, Sybil Ludington, rode 40 miles through the night to warn American militia about a British attack? (Paul Revere's ride was 16 miles.) Or how about "Mom" Rinker who spied on British soldiers and hid the information inside balls of yarn which she passed to the American soldiers? Ever heard of her?

If your answer is no, you should definitely pick up this book. Anderson gives brief facts about many, many women and girls who helped America win its independence in the Revolutionary War. Women spied on the British, provided food and clothing to American soldiers, and even went into battle! This is a great book to add to any unit on Women's History or the Revolutionary War.

Anderson includes a timeline of the Revolution, an author's note, and a substantial bibliography.

Definitely on the shelf for next Revolutionary War unit. I love Faulkner’s illustrations that pair perfectly with the extensive information and notes from Anderson. Great job of providing lots of info in small bits and sketches!

This is a very informative read and would be great as part of American History or women's history month. Lots of information on a page...requires several read throughs to catch everything. Like the timeline on the bottom.
