While I did like the main character I thought that her self-loathing was sort of exaggerated, like you have all the people surrounding you with positivity but you still feel that you are useless at certain tasks. As you read further there is reasons behind the loathing of the main character, but I still feel like the story didn't have enough heart to give her pain any validity. It is still a rather good read for a YA novel, predictable and fluffy, but still pretty good.

So I had this really great review for this book all pre-planned out in my head and as soon as I sat down to write it, it's gone! Bottom line is that I love Greek mythology and I love when YA uses it for a really fun novel. Lots of great twists and turns and I hated the ending because it was left on a cliffhanger, and there isn't another!

Promise Of Shadows by Justina Ireland is SUCH a cool book. I mean, seriously there's blood, there's identity/soul searching, there's romance. Read my full review here Link goes live 1/9/2017

Oh I liked this one! I read this simply because I enjoyed the first book I read from Ireland, Death Nation. I am a bit sad this is a stand alone fantasy? I enjoyed every bit of this book and sad more have not talked about it. I think it deserves more than Avg of 3.5 stars, but that's me. I would also love to see a reprint because the cover could be so much better. I mean blue hair and purple eyes? Come on now. The possibilities are endless. I got it from library but plan to own a physical copy for my shelves. I like it that much. I can imagine the movie *sigh*

"As we drive the last few miles to where Hera and her Acolytes wait for us, I'm not thinking of my impending doom or the army waiting to kill us. I'm thinking of the boy in the front seat, and wondering if I make him feel as conflicted as he makes me."

That's it.
That's the entire book in a nutshell.
A pointless cliche story told from the point of view of a serious contender for the "Most Annoying Heroine of All Time" award. Zephyr Mourning (the book's full of these ~quirky names) spends the entire book acting like a 5 year old who's experiencing her first crush, meanwhile a WAR is happening and everyone's dying and it's the end of the world (I suppose? I don't know, it was so stupid I didn't care enough to pay attention but don't worry, I'm not alone, only a handful of the characters cared, the rest just watched their soap operas) but like ... who cares, am I right? The important thing is why Tallon knows that girl's number off by heart? Oh my Gods, do you think Tallon likes me? Why is he ignoring me? Oh my Gods, I'm soooo jealous, what is this swishy feeling in my gut? Urgh, stop trying to kill me y'all I'm trying to stare at a BOY, goddamit. Remember my sister who I started the book actually caring about? Yeah, me neither, who cares when Tallon's here, right?
I. Am. So. Damn. Frustrated.
