I really wanted to love these poems. This was the first piece of Nezhukumatathil's work I picked up. Her writing was smooth, thematic, and occasionally electric. I truly think this was a case of the right book at the wrong time. I look forward to exploring the poet's other collections and coming back to Oceanic with a new perspective in a few years.

Loved this collection of poems! Some I vibed with more than others but still very much enjoyed. One of my favorite poems is “Naming the Heartbeats”. I enjoyed that most of these poems were nature related and had a depth to them, whether that was related to oceans or not. Excited to read more from this author.

This collection was so good. Her work is really lush and evocative but it doesn't feel forced or pretentious. I assumed early on that the ocean/nature theme might become redundant, but instead she incorporates it thoughtfully. I dogeared so many poems that it didn't take long for me to realize there was no point in doing so...I'd be flagging nearly every page. I'm ocean-floored. My feelings for this book run deep.

Oh, to be an organism in her writing.
