I very much enjoyed this book of short stories revolving around a cast of characters. I enjoy Patricia Wrede's writing more that Pamela Dean. Some of the timelines are a bit confused, but overall, this was a diverting read. I hope to find some of the other Liavek books, even though they are out of print.

Very satisfying collection of Liavek stories -- lovely to return to that world, lovely to read new stories in it, and pleasing to have all the ones about these characters in one place.

Linked stories by two different authors writing in a world shared with other authors have no right to be so affecting, so lovely, so nuanced, so alive. But Pamela Dean and Patricia Wrede don't care about rights. They're just like Granny: the weave tough, delicate, necessary magic.

Mostly a family saga sort of fantasy, too repetitive in spots. Several stories were told from multiple viewpoints but without enough variation to make them interesting a second time.
